Sometimes you can figure out the cause of SIBO, while others never figure it out. What’s most important is properly treating the condition.

Diet and SIBO

I believe that the low FODMAP diet and these other diets are incredibly pro-inflammatory if done for more than a few weeks. Furthermore, research has shown that these diets do not decrease bacterial counts in the small intestine/ treat the real problem (they are only a bandaid). I discuss this controversial (but effective) stance in my ebook.

That being said, these diets can be used to manage symptoms in the begining. Diets that can help decrease SIBO symptoms (and that I have worked with) include:

  • Low FODMAP diet
  • Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
  • The Bi-phasic Diet
  • Combination FODMAP/SCD (recommended by Allison Siebecker, ND)
Curing and Helping SIBO

Absolutely. SIBO often responds very well to dietary changes, herbal medicine, supplements, vitamins, and life coaching. I feel very lucky to be able to help people with this condition every day at my office in Chapel Hill.

Over the last ten years, I have had the pleasure of helping hundreds of people defeat IBS and SIBO.

Take a look at my “SIBO Mistakes” youtube series.

I have also had the privilege of being interviewed for the IBS and SIBO SOS Summit in 2018.

Oh, ps. I’m 99% sure I had SIBO (and successfully treated it) before I knew what SIBO was!

Going to Dr. DiNezza changed my life. I had been diagnosed as a celiac years earlier, and a gastro had suggested SIBO but given no clear path to eliminating it. Meanwhile, my food intolerances were getting out of control. I had severe pain and bloating with rice, corn, eggs, onion, garlic, apples, avocados, mangos, cherries, plums, pears. I was skeptical about whether functional medicine could help me, but felt at ease with Dr. DiNezza, who is friendly, outgoing, a little goofy (in the BEST way), and extremely knowledgeable. After three months of treatment I was able to introduce everything back to my diet (except gluten, which will be lifelong). I cannot rave enough about her and her practice! Highly recommended.

Nicole drastically turned things around for me a few years ago. As a Celiac the digestive thing has always been an issue but I was having some crazy persistent “D” with no obvious cross contamination known. Bunches and bunches of tests and I not only learned I was dealing with Ecoli and Giardia infections – she also diagnosed SIBO. Once we got those issues under control and I learned how to treat and prevent the SIBO, life returned to normal and now when I have those issues I know how to fix it! She’s kind and comforting and takes her time with you and I love working with her.

Dr. DiNezza has been an invaluable resource to me. When I started seeing her, I was suffering from fatigue, body aches, headaches, digestive issues, anxiety, and depression, among other ailments. Over time, Dr. DiNezza helped me to figure out what was going on with my body (SIBO and histamine intolerance, among many other things) and to find solutions that brought my health back. I am so much better now, and whenever I do have a setback, I know that I can contact her and she will help me identify a solution. She is friendly, compassionate, and knowledgeable. Highly recommend.

Dr. DiNezza hit “the nail on the head” with all of the stomach issues I have been having for years!  Just in our first conversation, she thought it was SIBO and she was correct.  After testing and getting the right combination of supplements, I began to feel better within weeks.  Now after 2 months, my stomach feels better than it has in years.  Not only is she knowledgeable, she is so personable and I always enjoyed our time together.  I highly recommend her.

“Dr Dinezza is absolutely the best. I had been having GI issues and recurring chest pain / inflammation for several years and had seen countless doctors, specialists and alternative medicine professionals to no avail until I saw Dr. Dinezza. As a result, I was very skeptical (but hopeful) based on all my prior bad experiences with healthcare professionals and the frustration of never knowing the underlying causes. She treated me for leaky gut, SIBO, gut dysbiosis, dismotility and IBS. This was all likely caused by the prescription NSAIDs I was on for the inflammation combined with being an undiagnosed celiac who ate a mostly gluten free diet but was getting small exposures from cross contamination at restaurants, etc and also explains my sensitivity to dairy as well. Basically, my gut and GI tract were in very, very bad shape. Long story short, she fixed me up in a period of mere weeks. She is methodical, research based, incredibly smart and experienced and the supplements and herbal treatments she prescribes are absolutely top quality. Her goal is not to keep you as a patient but to fix you up so you don’t need to come back. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her for anything she claims to know about and have experience treating, particularly GI health which of course affects health throughout the entire body. I’ve already recommended her to friends and family for various health concerns and will continue to do so to anyone who will listen. Bottom line, if you’re still reading this review it’s for a good reason and you need to see her asap!”

Dr. Dinezza helped set me on the path toward healing my gut and skin for good! She was the only practitioner I ever saw in the many years I attempted healing my chronic IBS and acne who suspected SIBO and she was right! I’ll always be grateful for her help in my journey!
