Common IBS Symptoms
  • Diarrhea

  • Constipation

  • (Possibly both diarrhea and constipation)

  • Abdominal/stomach bloating

  • Abdominal/stomach pain

  • Abdominal cramping

  • Nausea

  • Indigestion

You may have all of these symptoms or only a few.

Common causes of IBS

  • Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)

  • Food Poisoning (“Post-Infectious IBS”)

  • Leaky gut syndrome

  • Dysbiosis

  • Food sensitivities (gluten, dairy, soy)

  • Inflammation of the intestines

Usually, people have more than one thing from this list, as some of them cause the other (SIBO causing intestinal inflammation and leaky gut, for example).

Diet and IBS

I rarely recommend the most popular IBS diets. All of the following diets can be used to manage IBS symptoms, but should not be used for more than a couple of weeks.

Diets that can help IBS (and that I have worked with) include:

  • Low FODMAP diet

  • Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

  • The Bi-phasic Diet

  • Combination FODMAP/SCD (recommended by Allison Siebecker, ND)

Curing and Helping IBS

IBS often responds very well to dietary changes, herbal medicine, supplements, vitamins, and life coaching. I feel very lucky to be able to help people with this condition every day at my office in Chapel Hill.

I highly recommend Dr. Nicole DiNezza to anyone looking for a fantastic holistic healthcare professional. For about 7+ years, I have been struggling with various health issues, including sporadic hives (local and whole-body), mental fog, chronic cold extremities, chest pains, and more. After being told that I was “normal” by primary care physicians, and given OTC allergy medication by an allergist, I “gave up” going to doctors and tried to living with it and figuring it out on my own. Not a great place to be. After seeing my symptoms worsen over time, I knew I needed help. Within my first visit with Dr. DiNezza, she asked me pertinent questions in my subjective (ones which none of my previous doctors even thought to ask), and quickly got to the heart of what was going on. She truly listens to her patients, asks the right questions, and helps her patients get on the right track towards a healthier and overall better quality of life. Plus, Dr. DiNezza is down-to-earth and has an excellent sense of humor, what more can you ask for? 🙂

Dr. DiNezza has been an invaluable resource to me. When I started seeing her, I was suffering from fatigue, body aches, headaches, digestive issues, anxiety, and depression, among other ailments. Over time, Dr. DiNezza helped me to figure out what was going on with my body (SIBO and histamine intolerance, among many other things) and to find solutions that brought my health back. I am so much better now, and whenever I do have a setback, I know that I can contact her and she will help me identify a solution. She is friendly, compassionate, and knowledgeable. Highly recommend.

Dr DiNezza is helping me so very much! Long-story-short I’ve been a chronically ill person for decades with 4 “mystery” hospital confinements in the past 10 yrs, I’ve had so many diverse medical diagnosis’s & was being “handed off” from one MD to the next this past yr as things got much worse. “Dr Di” as I fondly call her has been a detective as much as a physician by looking at my lifetime of medical problems & putting the pieces of the puzzle together. For the 1st time in many years I am feeling so hopeful for a much healthier quality of life. Thanks Dr Di!!!

I just wanted to let everyone know I am so thankful I found Dr. DeNizza. I tried for over 20 years to find a doctor that may have some clue about my mystery illness. I had been to so many specialists in every field, to no avail. When I would list my symptoms, they would be totally overwhelmed and often told me I just needed psychiatric help. When I told Dr DeNizza my symptoms, she clicked right in on everything. She knew about such things as the rare disorder histamine intolerance, ordered a stool test that tested thousands of strains of good and bacteria, diagnosed dysbiosis and gave me the best workup and advice I ever had. She is always readily available for any questions. Her office is small and she has one patient at the time so it should be very safe for new patients who are concerned about the corona virus. I am so thankful I found her. Dr DiNezza, I thank you and you are welcome to use this information anywhere.
